'Stay 1.5 metres away from others to prevent the spread of coronavirus in our community.'

Being of Macedonian background and being aware of the challenges that succumb such developing countries, it was really important to communicate COVID-19 information accurately. Through my lens, I reflect an illustrative interpretation of my country, exploring motifs towards the notion of hope and resilience. Motifs include the sun from the Macedonian flag, landmarks prominent to the community, Mt.Pelister, and church St.Naum, reflecting Macedonia’s faith and nature; and the ironic placement of silhouettes reinforcing safety for care of the community.

Posters are being sold with proceeds going to the not for profit organisation Connection Art Space. Connection Art Space works with artists from migrant and asylum seeker backgrounds to host exhibitions and workshops in the city of Greater Dandenong, Victoria. Greater Dandenong is one of the most culturally diverse municipalities in all of Australia, with 2/3 of residents speaking a language other than English at home. Connection Art Space’s values of diversity and community align with those of Mistranslations and we hope to support their plight through the sale of our posters.
