'Protect yourself'

Even though Cantonese is my first language, I've never designed with it before, and I have to say I had a blast designing this brief and will do another one in the future. Face masks emerged as a symbol of the Hong Kong protests, protecting the wearers from both tear gas and oppressive state surveillance. This concept explores this connection, as the international community now uses them in our shared struggle against COVID-19.

Posters are being sold with proceeds going to the not for profit organisation Connection Art Space. Connection Art Space works with artists from migrant and asylum seeker backgrounds to host exhibitions and workshops in the city of Greater Dandenong, Victoria. Greater Dandenong is one of the most culturally diverse municipalities in all of Australia, with 2/3 of residents speaking a language other than English at home. Connection Art Space’s values of diversity and community align with those of Mistranslations and we hope to support their plight through the sale of our posters.
