'Wash your hands'

I'm from a Greek family and collaborated with my cousin to translate COVID-19 information for my poster. One thing that really stands out to me in Greek culture, is the immense significance of the Orthodox Church. Historically, stained glass windows have acted as the poor man’s bible, communicating information to masses of people (often illiterate) through art and storytelling. This is an interesting communication method to tap into for COVID messaging, proving art is a universal language that transcends barriers.

Posters are being sold with proceeds going to the not for profit organisation Connection Art Space. Connection Art Space works with artists from migrant and asylum seeker backgrounds to host exhibitions and workshops in the city of Greater Dandenong, Victoria. Greater Dandenong is one of the most culturally diverse municipalities in all of Australia, with 2/3 of residents speaking a language other than English at home. Connection Art Space’s values of diversity and community align with those of Mistranslations and we hope to support their plight through the sale of our posters.
